Siem Reap Aquarium | Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium

On November 1st 2022, Cambodia Jeep had a sneak peek at the new Siem Reap Aquarium, located near the village of Damdek, around 26 km east of Siem Reap (Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium on Google Maps). This project was designed and built by ICM, International Concept Management,

Freshwater species from the Amazon River as well as saltwater species from Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia are housed in the main aquarium.

Siem Reap Aquarium also houses two of the largest freshwater fish in the world, the Arapaima from the Amazon River and the Mekong Giant Catfish from the Mekong River. These two fish can reach a length of 3 meters and weigh up to 300 kilograms.

The Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium is spread over 100ha and focuses on conservation, preservation, and education. On the tour, you can find educational signs about the different fish species

In addition to fish and animals, corals can also be observed. Colourful brain coral, table coral, staghorn coral, organ pipe coral, and more. Experience the magic of aquatic life as you walk through the tunnel.

Outside as well as inside, there is much to see and do. A beautifully landscaped garden is home to tigers, civets, elephants, sunbears, and otters. You can also relax in a butterfly and zen garden.

 

SIEM REAP AQUARIUM | WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING

  • The Siem Reap Aquarium is open daily from 9am to 6pm.

  • During your visit, look for educational signs to learn more about the different species of fish.

  • The staff at Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium are very friendly and knowledgeable. You may ask them if you have any questions.

  • Additionally, there is a café stop, a restaurant, souvenir stores, and performances at Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium.

  • It is not permitted to bring food from outside.

  • Pets are not allowed at the Siem Reap aquarium.

CAMBODIA WILDLIFE TRIVIA

A 70 kg Arapaima fish (dragon fish) was found in  a pond near Angkor Wat temple in November 2022. In March 2022, five Mekong giant catfish have been released in the Tonle Sap lake.
