Kampong Cham - Phnom PenhMekong River Crossing: From Ancient Walls to Capital City
Our first stop is Kampong Cham, where the ancient Wat Nokor temple awaits. This fascinating complex, built in the 11th century under the reign of King Jayavarman VII, is a harmonious fusion of old and new. Within its historic walls, you'll find a modern Buddhist pagoda, a vibrant contrast to the impressive ancient sculptures, stupas, and towers adorning the original structure.
Depending on the season, we might have the unique opportunity to admire Kampong Cham's iconic bamboo bridge. This bridge, a testament to local engineering ingenuity, is annually constructed and dismantled based on the Mekong River's water levels. If we're lucky, we can even cross the bridge and enjoy breathtaking views of the river.
Embark on a scenic drive through the Cambodian countryside, traversing a mix of narrow dirt roads and paved highways towards Phnom Penh. Along the way, you’ll discover a remarkable pagoda where the past and present converge. An ancient wall dating back to the Angkor period stands as a testament to the temple that once graced this site, while a charming French colonial house adds a touch of European flair to the pagoda grounds.
As the afternoon draws to a close, you’ll find yourself back at the mighty Mekong River. Board the ferry and embark on a short crossing, reaching the bustling city of Phnom Penh.
Upon arrival at your hotel, bid farewell to your dedicated guide and support team, who have accompanied you on this unforgettable self-drive jeep tour through Cambodia.
